Thank you, strangers!

Dear strangers,

I barely remember your faces, let alone your names. But I believe all those "I found it online" are a bunch of people behind the screen. Those who worked hard to sustain their livelihood. Or simply be kind-hearted and generous people who don't gatekeep good things, without expecting anything in return. Sometimes, you guys come in the form of 'influencers', trying too hard, some said. But to me, you (who I look up to) are trying to help and cherish yourselves whilst helping and cherishing others. Which is absolutely cool!

You could be a mailman, with a long line of parcels. Yet still make time to politely text, just to ensure our stuff is safely delivered.

You could be at the front desk as a receptionist, answering the 'obviously on the note' thingy. You could be doing all the good things, above the par of the bare minimum and not appreciated at all. Yet one unpurposed mistake may affect you horribly.

You could be a cashier, for whom a piece of 'thank you' is enough to make your day.

You could be a student officer who is famous for getting mad every single day, at every circumstance. But chose to be kind on the day I visited the office.

You could be a boat crew, helping with tonnes of stuff. Sometimes, ridiculous stuff.

I know it's work. But thank you still for choosing to work diligently and ethically.

Sometimes,

You are a complete stranger.

A construction worker who greeted me on my way back from school, alone on a lonely street. "Hati-hati adik"

That random caregiver at the hospital reminded us to be patient. Whilst she might have gone through worse.

That random sister from Indonesia who asked, "Hijabnya beli di mana ya? Cantik!" You made my graduation day extra memorable sis!

The random infaq of bubur lambuk during Ramadhan, especially during my student days.

Those men who prefer to stand in those hours of train rides, simply to give a seat to all the women, regardless of whether they are young and old, pregnant or not.

I know it's common sense, and some people could afford to do extra. But thank you for choosing to be kind in a world full of bastards.

Thank you. I don't think that I'll go through this life and this year, this well, without God sending you to be part of it.

May God bless you, in whatever form you may be. Thank you <3

P/s Sometimes, I romanticise life. Well... I should do more, I guess. Just to be more grateful for things I barely realised before.

Another Step to Go
